June 17, 1975. I ran into the ladies' room at Ponzios to change my clothes after working all day as a special education teacher in Camden. I was a little nervous & afraid that I was going to be late.A few days before,I had spoken on the phone with a young man with a very pleasant voice named Al, who was a teacher in Cherry Hill. Months before,we both had paid a $2.00 fee & filled out questionaires from a new computer dating service-one of the first of its kind- sponsored by the Jewish Exponant newspaper.Al was just one of the fifteen names that appeared on my computer dating list that I had received in the mail the previous week. After a really great phone conversation,we decided to get together for a "blind date." But where should we meet? Of course, Ponzios- a convenient place mid-way between our two schools.I ordered a fruit salad & lemonade;Al ordered a fruit salad & iced tea.(We both weighed a lot less then!)Well, here it is 33 & 1/2 years later. In July, after many more fruit salads, huge pieces of strawberry cheesecake (We're not as thin as we used to be!), & wonderful memories with our 2 daughters,we will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary! And it all began at Ponzios! |
